Nicola Martin
Head of Sustainability, Transpennine Express
Nicola is an experienced strategic leader focused on developing and leading the TransPennine Express Sustainability Strategy, fostering a collaborative approach to deliver continuous improvements aligned to environmental and social sustainability policy goals. In her role as Head of Sustainability she is a Senior Manager and responsible for sustainability reporting and sustainability function, which includes accessibility, community, and environmental delivery. She is the independent chair of the RSSB Noise Working Group and a mentor via the Women in Rail mentorship programme.
Nicola started her career over 20 years ago as an environmental business advisor, building her experience in the built environment through consulting and advising on environmental management and legal compliance aspects to a variety of businesses. Through her career to date, she has been involved in the sustainability of major projects across different sectors including highways, education, healthcare, and utilities. For the last five years she has been working in the rail sector. Her current remit includes driving forward opportunities to decarbonise rail, including station buildings and developing strategies and projects that support embedding circular economy principles, improvements to waste, reduce emissions, improve accessibility, and deliver greater social impact.
