Brands Get Behind Yorkshire Sustainability Week
Monday 26 June
Yorkshire Sustainability Week, a week-long event aimed at promoting sustainable practices and raising awareness about environmental issues, has received support from several major organisations.
The series of events, which will take place from 3 – 7 July 2023, will be the biggest gathering of sustainability professionals outside of London and will feature a range of activities and initiatives designed to encourage businesses that are eco curious through to those who consider themselves to be eco warriors to attend and collaborate and adopt more sustainable practices for business growth. These include talks from an international speaker line up, workshops, roundtables and networking events all centred around the theme of sustainability and take place across Yorkshire.
West Yorkshire Combined Authority joins as headline sponsor, alongside Leeds City Council, and Leeds University. The Yorkshire & Humber Climate Commission have joined forces with the organisers to become headline partners.
Several other well-known organisations have pledged their support for the event by becoming sponsors including Ad:Venture, EY, Quorn Foods, and Biffa. These companies have committed to promoting the event on their social media channels, as well as providing funding and resources to help make it a success.
Sarah Brown, North Business Development Leader at EY, said: “We’re excited and proud to support Yorkshire Sustainability Week and its mission to drive change by encouraging businesses and individuals to take proactive actions to help address the climate crisis.
“At EY, we’re committed to addressing today’s environmental challenges by making changes in our own business, while also supporting our clients and our communities to adapt themselves. We were delighted to be carbon negative for a second consecutive year in 2022, and are on track to reach Net Zero in 2025. We look forward to working together with fellow businesses in the region to help Yorkshire kickstart and develop positive change and action through this great initiative.”
Other brands supporting the event include Women in Sustainability Network, Severfield and Surplus Group. The event has also received support from local businesses and organisations, as well as individuals and community groups.
“We are thrilled to have such a wide range of support for Yorkshire Sustainability Week,” said Kate Hutchinson, Founder of YSW. “This shows that there is a real appetite for sustainability professionals and those curious about becoming sustainable to come together to make a difference.”
Head of ESG for Severfield plc, Michaela Lindridge, said “Severfield is pleased to support the first year of YSW. This event highlights the appetite within the region and beyond for a more sustainably conscious future. As a company, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact and promoting sustainability, and we believe that events like this are a crucial part of that effort.”
Yorkshire Sustainability Week is open to everyone, and organisers are encouraging individuals and businesses to get involved in any way they can.
