Leeds Beckett University are partnering with The Sustainability Community to deliver a webinar showcasing their support to businesses through the Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs). The support helps with strategic, long-lasting, positive change and helps businesses foster a culture of innovation and development.
KTPs are a UK-government-funded programme that establish a unique partnership between an organisation and the university, in order to deliver positive impact and drive innovation. Leeds Beckett ranks in the top 10% of universities nationally for KTPs and is in the top 20% of universities for their work with businesses, research partnerships and their work with the public and private sector.
Through the rich partnerships with local and national employers they gain deep understanding of the challenges that face organisations. The breadth of expertise within the university allows them to respond creatively, supporting organisations to develop cutting-edge solutions. KTPs offer a sustainable opportunity to develop intelligent systems, frameworks and solutions to ensure productivity, sustainability and innovation.
Current KTPs tackle a range of complex business problems, across a variety of sectors. Not only do these projects deliver solutions and commercial impact for businesses, but they also support government agendas to boost innovation, support local economies and tackle the Net Zero agenda.
Leeds Beckett pride themselves on the societal and environmental benefits that come from the projects, with all the projects aligned to the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals. One project that will bring significant environmental benefits is their KTP in partnership with a QMedical. This KTP will see colleagues at Leeds Beckett process and utilise healthcare waste – particularly NHS waste – to create new, low carbon construction materials. The partnership with QMedical will secure funding for this worthwhile project knowing that it will divert high volumes of healthcare waste from incineration and therefore support the NHS to meet their goals of reaching NetZero by 2040 whilst bringing positive commercial impact to the business.
KTPs are relevant to any theme, sector or challenge and their conversations with businesses are suitably varied. Their current projects cover sustainability, productivity, talent management, internationalisation, succession planning, new product development, behaviour change and bespoke digital solutions to name just a few.
A common challenge facing businesses of all sizes is carbon emissions and the complexity that comes with understanding a company’s Scope 3 emissions. One of our current KTPs, led by Leeds Sustainability Institute and Leeds Business School, focusses on the audit and reduction of carbon emissions in supply chains with a reputable pet food manufacturer, Inspired Pet Nutrition.
KTPs are ideally placed to assist organisations in becoming fit-for-the-future, supporting the business community to evolve in the Net Zero Era is a key strategic priority for the university.
